About the research group
The Ageing and Cancer research group focuses on identifying the molecular factors that regulate cancer cell plasticity and their impact on cancer progression and immunotherapy response. This group aims to identifying molecular targets for new therapies to treat cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and melanoma. Additionally, the group seeks to understand the mechanisms involved in resistance to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) immunotherapy and the influence of an aged tumor microenvironment on this process, with the ultimate goal of preventing tumor recurrence and metastasis.
About the role
The successful candidate will participate in a research project focused on determining the molecular processes involved in the resistance of mouse and patient cSCC to immune checkpoint inhibitor treatments. Additionally, the project aims to assess the impact of an aged microenvironment on the response to this immunotherapy, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic strategies to overcome this resistance. These studies will utilize patient samples and employ multidisciplinary approaches, including immunohistochemistry, mouse models of cSCCs, and molecular biology techniques.

Education and training
- CFGM in Laboratory Technician
- Accredited certificate for the use of laboratory animals in research
Technical skills
- Knowledge of cancer cell isolation and in vitro culture
- Proficiency in primary cell culture, flow cytometry analysis, and immuno-oncoloy
- Skilled in administering treatments to mouse models of cancer
Languages
- Good command of the English language
We will value, but not require
- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, or related disciplines).
- Willingness to pursue a PhD thesis
- Experience in molecular biology
