About the unit
The Biobanc HUB-ICO-IDIBELL is a public, non-profit establishment created to manage and regulate various collections of human biological samples obtained at Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), Duran i Reynals Hospital (ICO), and other associated centers. This is done for research purposes and in accordance with current regulations (Law 14/2007, of July 3, on Biomedical Research and RD 1716/2011, of November 18).
The Biobanc HUB-ICO-IDIBELL has been authorized by the General Directorate of Health Planning and Research of the Departament de Salut of the Generalitat de Catalunya. It is also registered in the National Registry of Biobanks of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in compliance with RD 1716/2011, which establishes the basic requirements for the authorization and operation of biobanks for biomedical research purposes and for the treatment of biological samples of human origin. Additionally, the biobank is part of the National Network of Biobanks.
The biobank is affiliated with the Clinical Research Ethics Committee (CEIC) of the HUB and the External Scientific Committee (CCE) of the biobank.
About the role
The candidate will provide support in the daily main tasks of the biobank.
Main functions:
- Carry out and ensure the correct processing and archiving of human biological samples (fluids isolation, cryopreservation techniques, histological techniques, molecular biology techniques)
- Manage biobank databases
- Perform quality controls as established in the biobank’s processes
- Participate in the development of the Biobank’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015)
- Receive and register informed consents
- Manage the international and/or national transfer/delivery of samples and associated documents
- Provide occasional support to the Biobank Coordinator.
Job requirements
Professional experience
- Demonstrable experience in similar functions (minimum 1 year)
Education and training
- CFGS in laboratory technician or similar / FP2 certificate in Laboratories
Technical & soft skills
- Proven experience in handling human samples
- Previous experience in histology, immunohistochemistry, basic molecular biology techniques, and cell culture
- Lab management skills, including analytical, organizational, and time management abilities
- Strong teamwork skills
- Effective problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent time management
- Adaptability
Languages
- Good command of English, Spanish, and Catalan
We will value, but not require
- Specific training in human sample manipulation
- Experience in quality management systems
- Management of datasets and personal data for research

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine.
