About the research group
The Infections and Cancer research group primarily focuses on studying cancers caused by infections and their associated pathogens.
The Unit of Information and Interventions (UNIC II) boasts extensive experience in preventing HPV infections and cervical cancer. It provides crucial information for decision-making bodies and facilitates public health interventions on both national and international scales. UNIC II is renowned for conducting top-tier research aimed at enhancing the prevention of cancers linked to HPV infection.
At the local level, UNIC II is deeply involved in organizing and executing Catalonia's new population-based HPV Screening Programme, as well as evaluating the quality and impact of the Catalan HPV Prevention Plan. Additionally, it conducts modeling studies to economically evaluate various cancer prevention interventions.
On a global scale, UNIC II actively participates in the WHO's Global Strategy to Accelerate the Elimination of Cervical Cancer. This includes monitoring HPV infection rates, assessing HPV vaccination strategies, and implementing cervical cancer screening programs worldwide.
In essence, UNIC II's core areas of expertise encompass HPV epidemiology, HPV vaccines, cervical cancer screening, implementation and monitoring, mathematical modeling for HPV prevention, and healthcare professional training on HPV and cervical cancer.
About the role
- Provide IT technical support to design and implement new tools for the cervical cancer screening program.
- Develop and troubleshoot specific databases for the Programme, integrating data from various sources.
- Create data error control systems to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Implement enhancements to registration systems for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assist in the technical infrastructure for data analysis, ensuring smooth operation and optimal performance.
- Generate automated reports of results to streamline reporting processes.
- Utilize digital tools for visualizing results, enhancing accessibility and understanding.
- Collaborate in disseminating results with scientific rigor at both national and international levels.

Proficiency in R, Python, SQL, and JavaScript, as well as familiarity with data visualization libraries, such as ggplot, Shiny, and Plotly)

- Proficiency in non-relational database systems (noSQL).
- Familiarity with web programming for data visualization.

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV).
