About the research group

Neuropharmacology and pain

The group focuses its research on2- understanding the function of neurotransmitter receptors in health and disease. As such, its main objective is to transfer laboratory results to the patient and to clinical practice. To achieve this, the group strives to find new pharmacological strategies for effective management of neurological, neuropsychiatric, inflammatory, and autoimmune diseases and pain.

 

About the role

The candidate will work on a project to study the behavioral effects of the SARS-CoV2 Spike protein in rodents. Their tasks will be to study the brain penetrance and biodistribution of Spike (not the live virus) upon systemic or intracerebral administration and the morphologic effects derived from it. They will also run a battery of behavioral paradigms in mice to study the behavioral effects of Spike on mood disorders (such as anxiety or depression) and reward processing.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • At least 2 years working with rodents
  • At least 2 years working in project management
  • At least 2 years working in data analysis


Education and training

  • Degree in Biology, Biomedicine, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, or similar
  • Certifications for working with animals in Catalunya


Technical skills

  • Running behavioral experiments in rodents (such as self-administration, conditioned-place preference, open field, T-maze, etc.) and comfortable with routes of administration in mice
  • Basic wet laboratory techniques: drug preparation, tissue dissection, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and others
  • Good skills and practices in data acquisition, management, and statistical analyses using Excel or other specialized software (Prism, R, etc.)


Languages

  • Good command of the English language

 

We will value, but not required

  • Knowledge of molecular biology and biochemical techniques
  • Experience with cell culture
  • Coding languages for data analysis (preferably Matlab or Python)
