About the research group

The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a research center in biomedicine promoted by the Bellvitge University Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital, both from the Catalan Health Institute, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, University of Barcelona and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat city council. In 2017, the Center for Regenerative Medicine of Barcelona (CMR[B]), now part of IDIBELL, launched the Program for Advancing the Clinical Translation of Regenerative Medicine of Catalonia (P-CMR[C]) together with IDIBELL.


IDIBELL research is focused in cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the axes on which researchers work every day with the goal of improving the quality of life of citizens. IDIBELL is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, south of Barcelona.

The Innovation Unit is part of the Business Development and Innovation Area at Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL). The Business Development and Innovation Area is responsible for enhancing the value of innovative projects that are generated to IDIBELL to promote the establishment of translational research-industry collaborations.

The main responsibilities of the Unit are to identify and promote scientific and innovative projects that can be provided by the Campus through the identification and search for research results, the management of licenses and patents, the promotion of the innovative culture and the transfer of IDIBELL's knowledge, with the final aim of ensuring the valorization of the results.

IDIBELL is currently seeking an Innovation Manager who is passionate about supporting the knowledge and technology transfer process of innovative projects on campus and supporting IDIBELL’s role in the UMBRELLA consortium. The UMBRELLA (Unleashing a CoMprehensive, Holistic and Patient Centric Stroke Management for a Better, Rapid, AdvancEd and PersonaLised Stroke Diagnosis, TreAtment and Outcome Prediction) project aims to revolutionise stroke management by implementing a comprehensive approach that addresses gaps along the whole continuum of the stroke care pathway. UMBRELLA is a holistic approach to progress, reshape, and benchmark the overall stroke care pathway and set new and improved standards of care in terms of primary and secondary prevention, rapid access to treatments, early accurate diagnosis, stratification, management and real-time monitoring, therapeutic targets identification, and rehabilitation, recurrent stroke and related cardiovascular events.

IDIBELL as an EATRIS expert center will support the roadmap development to regulatory compliance and future certification for selected stroke cases’ management and the UMBRELLA FL-platform.

This role involves managing cutting-edge research projects with significant potential for market transfer and bringing these ideas from concept to market. Our Business Development and Innovation Area is committed to translating new knowledge into tangible solutions that address public health needs effectively by fostering public-private collaborations and entrepeneurship.

 

About the role

  • Participate in the process of evaluating innovative projects at scientific, technical and market perspective.
  • Knowing the activity of research groups of the Campus to identify innovative projects.
  • Order, manage and prioritize the projects and patents of the Innovation Unit.
  • Evaluate and stablish technology transfer channels.
  • Develop preliminary regulatory roadmaps for medical devices and in vitro diagnostics in the UMBRELLA framework.
  • Prepare roadmaps, advise and support innovation projects to increase their market value.
  • Drafting of commercial arguments of the projects.
  • Develop business cases for projects.
  • Draft and negotiation of collaborative agreements.
  • Draft competitive calls to present innovation projects
  • Regular contact and support to principal investigators and their teams
  • Attending innovation congresses and participating in the technology transfer strategy.
  • Promotion of the institution's innovation portfolio. Networking with companies and trading partners.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • Previous experience in similar roles, minimum 2 years
  • Customer and results orientation
  • Proactivity, initiative, relational skills and restlessness of improvement
  • Knowledge, skills and professional experience in the areas of Biotechnology or biomedical research.

Education and training

  •  University degree in life sciences

We will value, but not required

  • Previous experience in healthcare research and technology transfer
  • Ph.D. in the field of life sciences
  • Previous experience in innovation management and innovation training
  • Knowledge of intellectual property rights, patents and market-driven databases
  • Knowledge or experience in IP protection
  • Business development dxperience
