Research Technician - Neurometabolic Diseases

Ref.: 24-104_SS_AP

About the research group

Neurometabolic diseases

Work will be carried out within our multidisciplinary Systems Medicine team at IDIBELL (www.neurometabolic-lab.org), under the guidance of ICREA Professor Aurora Pujol.

Leukodystrophies are genetic disorders affecting the brain's white matter, primarily impacting children and often leading to early mortality. Our research focuses on unraveling the molecular causes of adrenoleukodystrophy using systems neurobiology approaches. This includes analyzing patient samples, iPSC-derived brain tricultures and organoids, and generating and integrating multi-omics big data, followed by functional validation. Insights gained in immunology and neuroscience will drive the identification of novel therapeutic targets and the design of clinical trials aimed at saving children's lives.

About the role

We are looking for a candidate with a strong passion for immunology, metabolism, and neuroscience, who is eager to work with patient-derived brain organoids, iPSC-derived neural cells, and both innate and adaptive immune cells. The role involves using multiomic approaches to uncover the underlying mechanisms of pathogenesis and to explore the metabolic and immunological interactions within the brain. Our ultimate goal is to identify effective treatments for brain inflammatory diseases. Commitment to improving patients' lives is key in this position.
