IDIBELL is looking for a COMMUNICATION OFFICER to join the Communications and Fundraising Unit.

 

About the research group

The primary mission of IDIBELL’s Communications and Fundraising Unit is to engage with the public and a wide range of stakeholders, both within and beyond the institution. Our focus is to promote and reinforce IDIBELL’s image through the development and implementation of clear, coherent, and engaging communication strategies that enhance public understanding of science and increase awareness of the institute, its researchers, and their impact on society.

The Unit carries out its mission through a wide range of initiatives and activities aimed at different audiences, including researchers, journalists and the media, policymakers, students, science educators, the general public and, of course, IDIBELL members. Also, it is responsible for carrying out institutional fundraising actions and campaigns that allow obtaining funds to accelerate the research developed at the Institute and launch new innovative projects.

The Unit is certified as a Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECyT) since 2017.

 

About the role

Reporting to the Communications and Fundraising Head, you will be supporting the press office and internal communication activities that IDIBELL carries out.

We are looking for a dynamic self-motivated professional with experience in creating scientific content for both digital and traditional media, supporting internal communication initiatives, and

lesser extent, outreach actions. He or she must be able to communicate directly with both senior and junior researchers, the Scientific Direction, and key units involved in generating valuable content, such as Innovation and Business Development. The contracted person will be integrated in a multidisciplinary and very active team, where he/she will receive advice and continuous support from the rest of the members.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • At least, 3 years of experience in a communications department within a scientific, healthcare, or research institution.
  • Specific experience in:
    • Production of high-quality scientific editorial content, press releases, op-eds, and digital campaigns tailored to specific target audiences
    • Participate in the implementation of internal communication plans by creating content and/or leading communication activities. Analyse the impact of internal communication actions and initiatives.
  • Ability to actively participate in the Communications Unit's processes to conceptualize, create, plan, and deliver editorial content for both internal and external digital communication initiatives.

Education and training

  • Higher Vocational Training (CFGS) in Communication, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Higher education in Communication, Life Sciences, Science Communication, or a related field will be positively valued.
  • Specific training in Science Communication, or demonstrable experience in this field, will be considered an asset.
  • Additional training in photography, video editing, web management, graphic design, social media, or other related areas will be positively valued. 

Technical & soft skills

  • Writing and editing skills: ability to translate scientific or technical information into accessible communication materials
  • Knowledge in managing
    • Social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Youtube)
    • Graphic design and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)
    • Email marketing softwares and web content management tools (e.g. Mailchimp, Wordpress, SharePoint)
    • Photography and video production & editing
  • Planning and organizational capacity, learning agility and capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Languages

  • Good command of the English language
  •  Native level of Spanish and Catalan

 

We will value, but not required

  • Familiarity with analytics tools for social media performance and digital communication metrics.

Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the pivots on which researchers work every day in order to improve the quality of life of citizens.
