About the research group

Our research group is specialized in obesity and adipose tissue alterations.

 

About the role

1. Selection of patients with severe obesity that had undergone bariatric surgery.

2. Provide patient information regarding the purpose of the study and obtaining informed consent, duly signed and dated personally by each participant.

3. Collection of baseline data:

- Anthropometric data: weight (kg), height (m), and waist and neck circumferences.

- Calculation of total body fat percentage using the Clínica Universidad de Navarra Body Adiposity Estimator (CUN-BAE).

- Assessment of daytime sleepiness using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale.

- Collection of clinical data: analytical parameters, type of surgical procedure, pharmacological treatments, and obesity-associated comorbidities.

- Recording of response to bariatric surgery, considering total weight loss achieved and remission or non-remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus after surgical intervention.

- Recording of type and time spent performing of Physical Activity and calculate METS.

-Body composition assessment.

4. Collection of biological samples (saliva) for genetic analysis through GWAS.

5. Provision of advice on physical activity performance aimed at improving muscle mass.

6. Recording and management of information in the study database.

7. Shipment of biological samples (n = 300) to the coordinating centre for analysis.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

· Experience in teamwork will be valued.
· Knowledge in the field of obesity and physical activity.

Education and training

· Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences. 

Technical & soft skills

· Group leadership experience and expertise in anthropometric measurements, body composition and exercise performance.

Languages

· Good command of the English language.

· Master degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.

· Estimated annual gross salary: Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay ranges.

Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV).
