About the unit

The Innovation Unit is a key component of the Business Development and Innovation Area at IDIBELL. This area is dedicated to maximizing the potential of innovative projects emerging from IDIBELL by fostering collaborations between translational research and industry.

The Unit’s primary responsibilities include identifying and promoting scientific and innovative projects across the campus, managing research outcomes through licensing and patents, and cultivating an innovative culture. Additionally, it is tasked with transferring IDIBELL's knowledge to ensure that research results are effectively valorized and translated into real-world applications.

 

About the role

We are currently seeking a passionate Innovation Manager to support the knowledge and technology transfer process of groundbreaking projects on campus. This role focuses on managing high-potential research projects, guiding them from concept to market, and ensuring they address critical public health needs through public-private collaborations and entrepreneurship. As part of our Business Development and Innovation Area, you will play a pivotal role in translating new knowledge into practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the evaluation of innovative projects, considering scientific, technical, and market perspectives
  • Engage with research groups across the campus to identify and cultivate innovative projects
  • Organize, manage, and prioritize projects and patents within the Innovation Unit
  • Assess and establish effective technology transfer channels
  • Develop roadmaps, provide guidance, and support innovation projects to enhance their market value
  • Create compelling commercial arguments for projects
  • Develop business cases to demonstrate the viability of projects
  • Draft and negotiate collaborative agreements
  • Prepare and submit competitive calls for innovation projects
  • Maintain regular contact with principal investigators and their teams, offering ongoing support
  • Attend innovation conferences and contribute to the technology transfer strategy
  • Promote the institution’s innovation portfolio, and network with companies and potential partners

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role
  • Experience in biotechnology or biomedical research fields


Education and training

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences
  • Ph.D. in a relevant Life Sciences discipline


Technical & soft skills

  • Strong customer and results orientation
  • Proactivity, initiative, and a drive for continuous improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in biotechnology or biomedical research
  • Proficiency in project management
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities, with a flexible and responsible approach to autonomous work
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective negotiation skills


Languages

  • Good command of the English, Spanish, and Catalan languages

 

We will value, but not require

  • Innovation training
  • Knowledge or experience in intellectual property (IP) protection
  • Previous experience in healthcare research and technology transfer
  • Previous experience in innovation management
  • Familiarity with intellectual property rights, patents, and market-driven databases
  • Business development experience

Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the pivots on which researchers work every day in order to improve the quality of life of citizens.
