About the unit

The General Services and Infrastructure Unit is responsible for managing the spaces and infrastructure at IDIBELL to ensure the smooth operation of both laboratories and research support areas. The unit is structured into several divisions: Facilities Maintenance, Equipment Maintenance, Security, Cleaning, and Environment. Each division has specific functions, including safety, waste management, and control of gas supply.

The Barcelona Stem Cell Bank is one of the three nodes of the Spanish National Stem Cell Bank/Banco Nacional de Líneas Celulares (BNLC), along with the nodes in Valencia (Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe) and Granada (Biobanco del Sistema Sanitario Público de Andalucía). The aim is to ensure the availability of human embryonic stem cell lines for biomedical research throughout the country.

Established in 2005, the Barcelona Stem Cell Bank's main objectives are the generation of human Pluripotent Stem Cells, including both human Embryonic Stem Cells (hESC) and human induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (hiPSC), for research and future clinical application. This includes the derivation, characterization, banking, and registration of these lines for use by national and international scientists.

 

About the role

We are seeking a Junior Technician to manage cryogenic and lab equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance tasks, analyzing and repairing breakdowns in sample conservation facilities and equipment. Additionally, the technician will supervise machine repairs conducted by external companies and perform daily reviews to ensure the correct operation of facilities and equipment.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • One year of experience in similar facilities with biomedical and laboratory equipment


Education and training

  • CFGS in maintenance, electricity/electronics, or a related field


Soft skills

  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Autonomous problem-solver
  • Proficient in writing documentation
  • Accurate and detail-oriented
  • Team player


Languages

  • You must be fluent in Spanish and/or Catalan and have an intermediate level of English

 

We will value, but not require

  • Two years of experience in similar facilities with biomedical and laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of ticketing management software
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software
  • Workplace safety training in maintenance

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV).
