About the research group

The Giorgetti’s lab (IDIBELL – Barcelona – SPAIN) offers good conditions and an excellent research environment and facilities.

The laboratory of Dr. Alessandra Giorgetti is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician to join an innovative research project investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in patients with GATA2 deficiency. GATA2 mutations are associated with a high risk of immunodeficiency, bone marrow failure, and progression to MDS and AML. Currently, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) remains the only effective treatment option, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies and improved approaches to optimize patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will contribute to a multidisciplinary project focused on understanding how alterations in the bone marrow microenvironment influence disease progression in GATA2 deficiency. Our research integrates cutting-edge multi-omic approaches, including bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing, ATAC-seq, spatial transcriptomics, cell–cell communication analysis, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-based models, and 3D human bone marrow organoid platforms. The Bioinformatician will be responsible for the analysis, integration, and interpretation of complex genomic and transcriptomic datasets, contributing to the identification of molecular mechanisms driving hematopoietic dysfunction and malignant transformation. The position offers the opportunity to work at the interface of computational biology, stem cell research, and precision medicine, within a highly collaborative international environment.

The candidate will also have the opportunity to interact with leading experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning, contributing to the development of innovative computational strategies for biomedical research.
