About the research group
The group of research in epidemiology of haematological cancer at the Catalan Institute of Oncology head by Dr Delphine Casabonne is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, organized and autonomous PhD student with good academic records interested in applying for grants which will be opened in the following months (PFIS AES-2026 and others) to develop a PhD project focused on a precursor of myeloma multiple (Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance). The project associated is entitled: “BIOCARE-MGUS Incorporating new BIOmarkers for enhanced risk stratification and improving CARE of Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance”.
Based on large prospective data, the project will include analyses combining and integrating detailed epidemiological, biomarkers and genetic data to examine progression from precursors to multiple myeloma and their management.

Candidate requirements:
- Educational background: Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biomedicine, Computer Science, Statistics or Biology/Biotechnology.
- Doctoral Enrolment: Candidates will be admitted or enrolled in an officially accredited doctoral program at a Spanish university for the academic year 2026-2027
- Statistical knowledge and experience in the management of statistical programs (STATA or R package)
- Have a master's degree with good records
- Advanced level of English
Valuable skills:
- Knowledge of computer languages, databases, and cancer research
- Knowledge of research methodology (clinical and epidemiological trials, cohorts, qualitative research, etc.)
- Statistical knowledge and experience in the management of statistical programs (STATA or R package)
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
- Publications and/or presentations at conferences are highly desirable
Inegibility:
Those who meet any of the following criteria are ineligible to apply:
- Those who began their predoctoral training with funding from other grants for predoctoral training
- Those who hold a doctoral degree from any Spanish or foreign university.
- Those who held a predoctoral contract for more than twelve months prior to submitting the application.
What do we offer

- Mentoring of the doctoral project
- Salary set by the official scales of the scholarships
- Full day: 37.5h per week (Monday to Friday)
- Incorporation: The candidate could start with the group with other internal funding until grant acceptance.
- Join the research group of the Institut Català d'Oncologia / Research Program in Cancer Epidemiology / Unitat d'Epidemiologia Molecular i Genetica en Infeccions i Càncer (UNIC-Molecular).
- Possibility of doing stays in national and international institutions with an agreement with the research group.
