About the research group

The candidate will have the opportunity to work within the DNA Mismatch Repair team of the Hereditary Cancer Group (https://hereditarycancergroup.com/team/dna-mismatch-repair-laboratory/), led by Dr. Gabriel Capellá and Marta Pineda. This group is focused on the improvement of healthcare of patients with mismatch repair associated hereditary cancer syndromes, namely Lynch syndrome and Constitutional Mismatch Repair Deficiency (CMMRD).
Successful candidates will join dynamic, young and well-equipped research group with strong interactions and multidisciplinary research. The group offers a stimulating research atmosphere for young talents and an environment in which collaboration and exchange of ideas and techniques is actively encouraged.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Research Assistant who will develop a project aiming aimed at identifying early events in Constitutional Mismatch Repair Deficiency (CMMRD) syndrome carcinogenesis.
Constitutional mismatch repair de?ciency (CMMRD) is a rare and devastating childhood-onset cancer predisposition syndrome caused by biallelic mutations in mismatch repair (MMR) genes. The spectrum of CMMRD tumors is broad being high-grade gliomas the most frequently diagnosed tumors. Accurate and prompt diagnosis is critical to intensive cancer screening and effective treatment. The severity of CMMRD is highlighted by the fact that patients do not survive until later life, emphasizing the requirement of novel tools for cancer risk surveillance and prevention in CMMRD individuals.
We aim to characterize early molecular events in CMMRD carcinogenesis to establish the basis for novel surveillance and prevention strategies. The research assistant will be involved in the?definition of the early sequential molecular events driving the formation of mismatch repair-deficient high-grade glioma?by means of a human in vitro-in vivo modeling of neoplastic transformation.
