About the unit

The Biostatistics Unit of IDIBELL offers methodological and statistical consulting services to researchers at the IDIBELL campus, as well as to other public and private entities. Services provided range from study planning to data analysis and assistance with interpretation of the results. The department also offers seminars and training courses.

Our mission is to provide professional methodological guidance to clinical research in the different medical specialties, and sub-specialties. Our goal is to collaborate with teams in any step of the whole research process, not just to serve as a resource that tackles a complex analysis, in compliance with the ethical and scientific quality standards and the principles of good clinical practice.

 

About the role

  • Statistical and methodological consulytation for empirical studies in medical sciences, encompassing both experimental (clinical trials) and observational studies (prevalence, cohorts, etc).
  • Guidance on research plan scheduling, including the selection of the design methods, random allocation, sampling procedures (sample recruitment), sample size calculation, and analytic-statistical plans.
  • Design of database structures and data management.
  • Advanced statistical data analysis, covering generalized linear models, survival analysis, generalized equation estimation models, and classification methods such as cluster and latent analysis.
  • Psychometric analysis, including exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis, as well as reliability and validity analysis.
  • Assistance in crafting scientific reports, including guidance on result interpretation and review of scientific articles.
  • Occasional instruction in methodology and statistics for medicine and health sciences.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • 3 years of experience performing the duties of a BioStatistician


Education and training

  •  Master's Degree in the field (health informatics, statistics, data science, or a closely related discipline) 


Technical & soft skills

  • Proficiency in general statistical packages (SAS, SPSS, Stata, Mplus, R)
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to learn new skills, tasks, and technologies, and to teach others


Languages

  • Advanced proficiency in English (C-level)

 

We will value, but not required

  • Proficiency in database packages (RedCap, ACCESS, Oracle)
  • Active involvement in research teams
  • Presentation of empirical research studies at congresses, conferences...
  • Publication of empirical research articles

Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the pivots on which researchers work every day in order to improve the quality of life of citizens.
