About the institution

IDIBELL main goals include the promotion of research, innovation and education on Biomedicine and Health and Life Sciences. The Foundation assumes a particular role in promoting research on regenerative medicine. The Managing Director is responsible of economic and financial management, as well as the management of administrative services. The person applying for this position will be appointed by the Board of Trustees (IDIBELL governing body) and will report to the General Director.

 

About the role

He/she will be responsible for directing and executing the following functions:

  • Support the Director and contribute to the development of the overall policy, strategic planning, enabling, and translating the scientific vision and strategic goals into a clearly articulated operational strategy.
  • Direct leadership and oversight for Finances, Competitive Projects, HR, Purchasing & Procurement, IT, General Services & Infrastructure, and Secretariat, Clinical Trials and Scientific & Technical Services administrative management (< 60 internal staff).
  • Economic, accounting, and budgetary management: Budget preparation and follow-up ensuring sound financial management. The monitoring of the economic and administrative activity derived from the Institute's activity, such as: clinical research (clinical trials), management of grants and subsidies for research projects and private projects, and donations, sponsorships, etc.
  • Management of funds received, preparation of annual accounts, as well as preparation of annual financial reports and processing of justifications to the different institutions. It will have to guarantee the performance of all fiscal aspects.
  • Management of service provision contracts, customer management and public procurement.
  • Administration and safeguarding the IDIBELL assets (both financial and physical assets, including facilities and equipment). To carry out the management related to the activity derived from the execution of acts and legal transactions of administration on all types of real estate, real property, and securities, in accordance with the guidelines approved by the Board of Trustees.
  • The management, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Board of Trustees, of the Foundation's human resources, the hiring of personnel, incidents, separation and termination of employment contracts, organizational HR policies, as well as the management of scholarships and grants, the promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility policies and the attraction and retention of talent.
  • Regulatory Affairs: Ensure compliance with applicable legal regulations.
  • Liaison with and report to the Board of Trustees in the areas of responsibility and accountability for the effective preparation, management, and follow-up of associated activities.
  • Legal representative: responsible for signing official documents on behalf of the IDIBELL, including contracts and agreements, labor contracts and related, public procurement, economic documents.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and foster and implement improvements in management systems and processes (incl. KPIs, quality management system, digitalisation).
  • Detection of the needs derived from the activity of the Institute's Research Groups and the rest of the units from the economic and administrative point of view.
  • All those entrusted or delegated to it by the governing bodies of the Foundation.

 

Job requirements

Note: the person must have full capacity to act; not be disqualified or incapacitated to exercise public functions or positions or to administer property and not have been convicted of crimes against property or against the socio-economic order or for crimes of misrepresentation.


Professional experience

  • Extensive management experience (minimum 5 years), preferably in similar national or international institutions dedicated to the field of research
  • Proven track record in leading and managing multi-functional teams in a multi-discipline and multi-cultural environment
  • Experience in reporting to and formulating policies for submission to governing bodies, and in their implementation and tracking


Education and training

  • University degree preferably in Business Administration or Life Sciences or any related discipline
  • MBA or similar in Management, Economics, Health Sciences, Leadership, Digitalization or other specialized Master's degrees


Technical & soft skills

  • Proficient in IT and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Competence in project management
  • Demonstrated track record of resolving complex administrative issues and including providing solutions for implementation
  • Capacity to translate the strategic plan into an operational plan that is measurable and achievable with the available resources
  • Documented background in the cost-effective management of complex project structures: experience in the implementation of advanced management systems and key process analyses
  • Good knowledge of public sector regulations applicable to research foundations
  • Capacity to focus on priorities and to set and revise objectives of the different groups
  • Experience in ERP implementation and Business Intelligence
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Strategic vision and negotiation skills with private and public stakeholders and internal and external clients
  • Proactive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude
  • Highly resilient and stress tolerant

Languages

  • Proficiency in the English language
  • Good command of the Spanish and Catalan languages or alternatively, a basic level with a willingness to learn one of these upon joining is also acceptable

 

We will value, but not required

  • Experience in hospital environment, pharma industry or the auditing sector
  • Experience in the management of clinical research of the pharma industry and/or the financial management of the public sector

    Selection process

    • Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will consist on an eligibility check based on qualifications and expertise reflected on the candidate's CV.

    IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine.
