About the research group

The Laboratory of Rare TumorS is part of the Hereditary Cancer Group of the IDIBELL. We are part of the Hereditary Cancer Program of the ICO/IDIBELL, a multidisciplinary program composed of four research labs and molecular diagnostics unit as well as the genetics counselling unit in which more than 50 people share experience and research interest in the field of cancer genetics. Our laboratory keeps a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment sharing ideas and expertise to help each other flourish in their own projects.

The project requires a highly motivated investigator with background in cancer cell biology and genomics to work as a research technician in our FGFR1 research projects. Proven experience in cell biology, molecular laboratory and bioinformatics analysis techniques, and proficiency in English are required.

About the role

The candidate will integrate within a multidisciplinary laboratory and will be involved in the cell biology projects as well as in the applications of genomics techniques to tumor profiling. The primary role will be dedicated to the study of FGFR1 hotspot alterations in tumorigenesis for model generation and target discovery. It is expected that the selected candidate will gradually get involved in the projects assessing miRNA biogenesis impact in tumor development. The selected candidate is expected to be able to work independently and also within a multidisciplinary team. Mentoring junior researchers will be promoted.

Job requirements

Professional experience

• Demonstrated experience in cancer cell biology research
• Demonstrated experience in NGS applications to cancer research.
• Demonstrated experience in cell or tissue culture.
• At least one first author publication in a peer-reviewed journal

Education and training

• Higher Vocational Training (CFGS) in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
• Higher education in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field will be positively valued. 

Technical & soft skills

• Fluorescence microscopy and image analysis (confocal microscopy, expansion microscopy, live-cell imaging)
• High throughput genotyping analysis
• Basic knowledge of bioinformatics for RNAseq and exome-sequecing.
• Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary and international research environments.

Languages

• Good command of the English language

We will value, but not required

• Certification for animal work
• Demonstrated experience in training young researchers.

Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV).
