About the research group

The Optical Microscopy Platform is one of the IDIBELL’s Scientific and Technical Services that support the research carried out at the centre. Here we provide the IDIBELL community with scientific advice on experimental design, training required for the proper handling of equipment, technical support during the acquisition of images and software programming for automation of image analysis.

 

About the role

The chosen person will support the users of the Optical Microscopy Platform with his/her knowledge and experience of any type of optical microscopy methodology and will lead the platform and their staff in a balanced combination between a specialized technologist and a good administrative management capacity that the position entails.

Tasks to be performed during this period will include:

· Carry out preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the correct operation of the equipment.
· Provide technical support during image acquisition and establish the appropriate capture conditions in each case.
· Collaborate on software programming to answer researchers' questions.
· Assist in the surveillance of the equipment booking system and the transfer of data to the invoice department.
. Organization of the human team of the Platform in the weekly planning.
. Execution of administrative tasks such as rates, invoicing, and drafting of technical specifications.
. Any tasks assigned by the person responsible for the SCTs within the established DLTs

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • More than 5 years working as a technician of an Optical Microscope Platform involved in biomedical research.

Education and training

  •  Degree in science or biomedical related topic. 

Technical & soft skills

  • Experience in dealing with researcher users, problem-solving, and planning of the unit's tasks.
    Autonomous usage of optical and fluorescence microscopes, especially confocal microscopes.
    Have a thorough knowledge of the optical microscopy basics.
    Have knowledge of image analysis by different software.
    Fast learner of new methodologies and willingness to adapt to a work team.
    Notions of scientific communication and public-faced skills.

Languages

  • Good command of the English language
  •  

We will value, but not required

  • Attendance in training activities related to fluorescence and confocal microscopy.
    Experience in the internal routine operation of biomedical research support services.
    Programming skills.

Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine.
