About the research group

Hereditary cancer

Our research team, the laboratory of Rare TumorS, is part of the Hereditary Cancer Program of the Institut Catala` d’Oncologia, IDIBELL [Program Director: Gabriel Capella´/Conxi Lázaro]. The overarching goal of our lab is to gain insight into the molecular basis of hereditary rare cancer syndromes affecting children and young adults and to personalize risk assessment to patients and relatives. Our research is focused on the description of new syndromes and the identification and functional characterization of novel cancer-predisposing genes; profiling of rare tumor types and understanding how the germline background of a patient contributes to the risk of developing benign or malignant tumor types.

About the role

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, international, young and well-equipped research group with strong interactions and multidisciplinary research. The project, partially funded by the Department of Defence of the USA (NRTO), the “Miguel Servet Fellow (MS)” and the “Agència de Gestió d'Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (SGR)”, is focused on the clinical and molecular characterization of miRNA biogenesis genes involved in tumor development as DGCR8 or DICER1. The group offers a stimulating research atmosphere and an environment in which collaboration and exchange of ideas and techniques is actively encouraged with a strong commitment to research.
