About the research group
The candidate will join the group led by Dr. Laura Valle at the Hereditary Cancer Group (Oncobell Program), IDIBELL. The group's research focuses on identifying the genetic causes of colorectal cancer predisposition, including both monogenic syndromes and polygenic risk factors. Additionally, we aim to better characterize new hereditary colorectal cancer and polyposis syndromes, and early-onset colorectal cancer. Our group is especially interested in the genes POLE and POLD1, and their relationship to both hereditary and sporadic forms of cancer.
About the role
The researcher will participate in and be responsible for several tasks within the REPAIR-POL project. They will be involved in developing cellular models and conducting functional studies on polymerase proofreading and other DNA repair deficiencies. Additionally, they will perform saturation genome editing experiments and the corresponding interpretation of the obtained results
Job requirements
Professional experience
- >4-year experience in cancer genetics and/or hereditary cancer
Education and training
- Higher Vocational Training Qualification (CFGS) in a Health Sciences-related field (preferably Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory, Pathological Anatomy and Cytodiagnosis, or Laboratory Analysis and Quality Control).
Technical & soft skills
- Knowledge on Cancer Genetics and Hereditary Cancer
- Previous experience in the classification of variants in hereditary cancer genes (ACMG/AMP framework)
- Proficiency in molecular biology /genetic techniques (extraction of nucleic acids, PCR, RT-PCR, western blot, genotyping)
- Sequence analysis and interpretation (NGS and Sanger)
- Proficiency in cell culture and CRISPR/Cas editing in human cells
- Previous experience in Saturation Genome Editing
Languages
- Good command of the English language
We will value, but not required
- Expertise in the analysis of mutational signatures from sequencing data.
- Knowledge on statistics in the biomedical field.
- Previous experience in writing scientific articles.
- Good oral communication skills.
