About the research group

The main objectives of the Tobacco Control research group are to foster the current knowledge and evidence on determinants and approaches to prevent and control tobacco use, as well as tobacco smoke and e-cigarette aerosol exposure in the population. To achieve these objectives, the research group develops interventions and epidemiological and implementation research, which includes projects such as: the impact of passive tobacco exposure in the population, the use of markers to measure tobacco smoke and electronic cigarettes aerosol in the environment or biomarkers, or the implementation of new interventions such as smoke-free homes.

The research group currently maintains stable collaborations with national and international institutions and agencies, mainly with the Catalan Public Health Agency, and including the World Health Organization (WHO), which designated the research group  as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Tobacco Control.


The group’s research through the Consolidated Research Group on Epidemiology, Prevention and Tobacco Control (2021SGR00906) at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute. In addition, the research group constitutes the core of the CB19/06/00004 Group of the CIBER of Respiratory Diseases, which is funded by Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

 

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist with expertise in qualitative research methods to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting final fieldwork and qualitative analysis as part of an ongoing study DuCATA focused on exploring the use of a gamified mobile application. The study aims to evaluate the usability, feasibility, and satisfaction levels among individuals who have utilized the app, as well as those who have not, according to the predetermined research plan.


Responsibilities:

a) Final Fieldwork:

  • Conduct phone calls, in-depth interviews, and distribute questionnaires to gather data on the variables of interest.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure adherence to the research plan and methodology.
  • Navigate the complexities of the study population to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to additional personnel involved in the fieldwork.
  • Ensure ethical considerations are upheld throughout the data collection process.


b) Qualitative Analysis:

  • Perform thorough qualitative analysis on the data collected during the fieldwork phase.
  • Identify themes, patterns, and insights relevant to the research objectives.
  • Utilize appropriate software tools and methodologies to analyze qualitative data.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing the findings of the analysis.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to interpret and integrate qualitative findings into broader research conclusions.

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • Extensive experience (at least 5 years) in qualitative research methods, including conducting interviews and analyzing qualitative data
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing qualitative research studies
  • Familiarity with ethical considerations and best practices in qualitative research

 

Education and training

  •  A Ph.D. in a relevant field such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, or public health


Technical & soft skills

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Proficiency in qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, MAXQDA)


Languages

  • Good command of the English language (C1 level)
