PhD student for FPI fellowship - Cancer Genetics

About the research group

The candidate will join the group led by Dr. Laura Valle at the Hereditary Cancer Group IDIBELL. The group's research focuses on identifying the genetic causes of colorectal cancer predisposition, including both monogenic syndromes and polygenic risk factors. Additionally, we aim to better characterize new hereditary colorectal cancer and polyposis syndromes, and early-onset colorectal cancer. Our group is especially interested in the genes POLE and POLD1, and their relationship to both hereditary and sporadic forms of cancer.

About the role

IDIBELL is looking to incorporate a PhD student with previous experience in genomics, cell culture and gene editing, and knowledge in cancer genetics.

Job requirements

Professional experience

• MSc project or previous (hands-on) training on cancer genetics or hereditary cancer.

Education and training

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Genetics, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, or other related fields in Health Sciences.
• Master's degree in a Health Science-related field (preferred: Genetics/Genomics, Cancer Research, Biomedicine, or similar). 

Technical & soft skills

• Knowledge on Cancer Genetics, Hereditary Cancer.
• Basic molecular biology /genetic techniques (extraction of nucleic acids, PCR, RT-PCR, western blot).
• Sequence analysis (NGS and Sanger).
• Cell culture.
• CRISPR/Cas editing.

Languages

• Good command of the English language.

We will value, but not required

• Expertise in variant classification (ACMG/AMP guidelines).
• Expertise in the analysis of mutational signatures from sequencing data.
• Good oral communication skills.

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV).
