About the research group

The Infections and Cancer units primarily study infection-attributable cancers and their related pathogens.

The Unit of Information and Interventions (UNIC II) has long-standing expertise in the prevention of HPV infections and cervical cancer. It facilitates information for decision-making bodies and enables public health interventions both nationally and internationally. UNIC II is recognized for conducting high-quality research to improve the prevention of cancers associated with HPV infection.

At the local level, UNIC II is working on the organization and implementation of the new population-based HPV Screening Programme in Catalonia, the quality assessment and impact evaluation of the Catalan HPV Prevention Plan, and the development of modelling studies for the economic evaluation of different cancer prevention interventions.

At the global level, UNIC II is actively involved in the WHO’s Global Strategy to Accelerate the Elimination of Cervical Cancer, including monitoring of HPV infection, HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening strategies worldwide.

In summary, UNIC II’s main areas of expertise are HPV epidemiology, HPV vaccines, cervical cancer screening, implementation and monitoring, mathematical modelling of HPV prevention, and training for healthcare professionals on HPV and cervical cancer.

 

About the role

The Statistician will provide technical and methodological support for the design, analysis, and interpretation of data across various health programs and research projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing statistical analyses, including descriptive, inferential, and multivariate methods.
  • Advising on the implementation of new analyses i methodologies.
  • Monitoring data quality and integrity, identifying inconsistencies, and proposing corrective actions.
  • Designing studies and data collection tools.
  • Supporting the development of reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, offering guidance on statistical issues and study design.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • Previous experience in research groups, ideally in public health, epidemiology, or health services research.
  • Familiarity with managing and cleaning large health datasets.
  • Experience in designing and performing statistical analyses for health projects or scientific studies.

Education and training

  •  Graduate in Biomedical Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. 

Technical & soft skills

  • Advanced knowledge in database management and statistical software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex statistical concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and capacity to work independently.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills, with flexibility to adapt to different projects.

Languages

  • Good command of the English language

 

We will value, but not required

  • Masters Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a similar discipline.
  • Very proactive and decisive person, high organizational ability
  • Additional training in data analysis software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA, Python) will be valued
  • Interest in enrolling in a PhD program in the long term.

Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV).
