About the research group

Tobacco Control Research Group

The main objectives of the Tobacco Control research group (Unitat de Control del Tabac in Catalan, UCT) are to foster the current knowledge and evidence on determinants and approaches to prevent and control tobacco use, as well as tobacco smoke and e-cigarette aerosol exposure in the population. To achieve these objectives, the UCT develops interventions and epidemiological and implementation research, which includes projects such as: the impact of passive tobacco exposure in the population, the use of markers to measure tobacco smoke and electronic cigarettes aerosol in the environment or biomarkers, or the implementation of new interventions such as smoke-free homes. On the other hand, the UCT is also responsible for applied intervention projects such as the Catalan Network of Smoke-free Hospitals and health promotion services such as the smoking cessation clinic, which offers support to quit smoking to both employees and patients from ICO-IDIBELL.
The UCT currently maintains stable collaborations with national and international institutions and agencies, mainly with the Catalan Public Health Agency, and including the World Health Organization (WHO), which designated the UCT-ICO as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Tobacco Control.
The UCT’s research through the Consolidated Research Group on Epidemiology, Prevention and Tobacco Control (2021SGR00906) at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute. In addition, the UCT constitutes the core of the CB19/06/00004 Group of the CIBER of Respiratory Diseases, which is funded by Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

About the role

The selected candidate will develop tasks as a research assistant and project manager of the “Smoke-free homes” Project, funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, and coordinated by the UCT. This project aims to evaluate effectiveness and implementation outcomes of an evidence-based intervention promoting smoke-free homes in Barcelona and its Metropolitan Area. Specifically, the main tasks to develop will be:

  • Support the PI in the coordination of the project.
  • Perform fieldwork tasks of the project (e.g., management of the project participants, phone questionnaire interviewing, coordination of the interventions stakeholders, delivering intervention components, etc.).
  • Support PI in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders (national and international institutions, funding body, etc.).
  • Prepare and attend the coordination meetings at different levels both online and in person.
  • Participate in dissemination activities of the project (conferences, webinars, presentations).
  • Participate in the writing of scientific and advocacy papers.
  • As any member of the Unit, participate in the Unit activities such as monthly meetings, journal club, training, etc.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • Participation in health promotion and health care service research
  • Experience in cancer or other NCD prevention and control qualitative or quantitative research


Education and training

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Health Sciences or Social Sciences (public health, psychology, nursing, pharmacy, medicine, biomedical sciences, sociology, or others)


Technical & soft skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proactivity, discipline, and multi-tasking
  • Ability to work individually and with a team, initiative, and responsibility


Languages

  • Good command of the English, Spanish and Catalan languages

 

We will value, but not required

  • Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, clinical psychology, or allied sciences
  • Knowledge of Implementation Science frameworks and models
  • Motivation to work proactively, grow within our Unit and learn continuously
  • Previous experience in project management, fieldwork coordination
  • Previous experience in conducting interviews, focus groups, etc.
