About the research group

The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a research center in biomedicine promoted by the Bellvitge University Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital, both from the Catalan Health Institute, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, University of Barcelona and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat city council. In 2017, the Center for Regenerative Medicine of Barcelona (CMR[B]), now part of IDIBELL, launched the Program for Advancing the Clinical Translation of Regenerative Medicine of Catalonia (P-CMR[C]) together with IDIBELL.

IDIBELL research is focused in cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the axes on which researchers work every day with the goal of improving the quality of life of citizens. IDIBELL is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, south of Barcelona.

XarSMART is an initiative of the Catalan life and health sciences ecosystem that aims to enable the region to generate medical technologies and new companies, with the goal of increasing the transfer of high-level projects to the market.

XarSMART was established in 2023, to answer a question shared among the founding members: what else can we do to validate and accelerate the transfer of our researchers’ ideas? Led by the Business Development and Innovation Area at IDIBELL, with the support from a team of renowned advisors and an industry board, XarSMART aims to increase the market value of Personalized Precision Medicine, digital health, and data science projects of our members. It provides new tools for searching funds and for the valorization of ideas, promotes collaboration between different institutions and with the industry, contributes to the skills’ development of the network members and improves the translation of solutions to the National Health System.

IDIBELL is currently seeking a Project Manager for XarSMART who is passionate about innovation and seeks to provide value to researchers and the biomedical research sector. The role is particularly focused on business development activities, either for research projects and for the XarSMART tools, with the aim of consolidating the impact of our network in the Catalan biomedical research sector. This role involves managing cutting-edge research projects with significant potential for market transfer and bringing these ideas from concept to market, as well as coordinating the development and the dissemination and commercialization of specific tools for researchers and KTTs.

• Attracting new research groups/institutions for the network.
• Developing consultation documents (guides, infographics, etc.).
• Support in preparing scientific justifications for the XarSMART Project: reports, budget tracking, and monitoring of indicators.
• Coordination of website and Intranet maintenance and optimization.
• Self-assessment kit (a questionnaire for researchers to evaluate the status of their project): updating content and promoting the tool to the community.
• Moodle eLearning platform: identifying new training opportunities and speakers, dissemination, and commercialization of the tool.
• Grant search platform: supporting development coordination, managing pilot tests, dissemination, and commercialization of the tool.
• Marketing Plan execution and monitoring, including event organization.
