About the research group

The Bellvitge University Hospital Neuromuscular Diseases Unit is part of the Neurology service. Currently, it works in a coordinated way with the Neurological and Neurogenetic diseases groups, belonging to the Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), the Neuroscience Area of the Clinical Sciences Department of the Barcelona University Medicine Faculty, and the Barcelona University Neurosciences Group. In addition, members of the Unit are integrated in CIBERNED and AGAUR groups.

The Group is accredited as neuromuscular diseases CSUR by the Spanish Health Department and neuromuscular XUEC by Catalonia Generalitat Health Department.
The Bellvitge University Hospital Neuromuscular Unit is clinically coordinated by Dr. Carlos Casasnovas and electrophysologically by Dr. Mónica Povedano. In turn, it is divided into subareas with specific coordinators in each of them:

     1. Myology ---> Dr. Nedkova

     2. Peripheral Nerve, First Motoneuron and Motor End-plate Diseases ---> Dr. Casasnovas

     3. Motor Neuron Diseases – ALS ---> Dr. Povedano

     4. Neurophysiological test applied to Neuromuscular Diseases ---> Dr. Povedano

The Unit also includes the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Unit (UFELA), led by Dr. Povedano, and the Family Amyloidosis Functional Unit, whose neurological clinical coordinator is Dr. Casasnovas.

Besides, the Neuromuscular Diseases Unit is included in the Bellvitge University Hospital Minority Diseases Attention Group, which includes all professionals in our center involved in the diagnosis, management, care and treatment of low-prevalence diseases.

At present, the Unit is carrying out clinical trials in different neuromuscular diseases (ALS, Myasthenia Gravis and ATTR Amyloidosis) and leads competitive projects (IP: Dr. Casasnovas), in addition to collaborating in other competitive projects.

 

About the role

The main functions performed by the person hired will be to:

     - Participate in ongoing clinical trials by the Unit and lead some of them.
     
     - Clinical support in monographic consultations.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • Specific stay in a reference Neuromuscular external Unit other than the hospital where the residency was completed.
  • Having previously worked at the Bellvitge Neuromuscular Unit under contract with IDIBELL.
  • Having previously worked in the Bellvitge Neuromuscular Unit as an assistant physician in the Neurology Department of the Bellvitge University Hospital.
  • Having collaborated as a subinvestigator in more than 10 trials/studies on neuromuscular diseases.

Education and training

  •  CFGS in lab or life Sciences 

Technical & soft skills

  • Knowledge of neuromuscular diseases.
  • Advanced knowledge of electromyography.
  • Personal skills:
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to develop a research base for future doctoral programs.

Languages

  • Good command of the English language

We will value, but not required

  • Operational knowledge of the SAP system.
  • Completion of the Neurology Residency in 2021.
  • Having completed a stay at Bellvitge University Hospital Neuromuscular Unit.

Our institute
