About the research group

The research group "Innate Immunity and Pathology of the Critically Ill Patient" focuses on investigating immune system mechanisms related to transplants, sepsis, and postoperative recovery following complex surgeries such as heart surgery. Additionally, the group examines how these mechanisms influence clinical activities and other factors affecting the prognosis and clinical course of critically ill patients. Specifically, the research aims to study the functional properties of anti-aGal antibodies and their potential role in attenuating protective immune responses provided by other immunoglobulins. Furthermore, the group conducts research on the immunological mechanisms involved in the development of infectious diseases caused by Gram-negative bacteria in ICU patients.

 

About the role

The auxiliary technician will assist in evaluating the impact of antibody levels associated with nosocomial infections in the ICU caused by Gram-negative bacteria. Additionally, they will participate in assessing the effects of specifically targeting these antibodies in vitro using a compound called RA0127. This compound selectively eliminates these antibodies and its effects on the serum bactericidal capacity of ICU patients against the Gram-negative bacterial strain infecting them will be evaluated.

  •  CFGM in a laboratory-related discipline


Technical skills

  • Proficient in developing and optimizing quantitative methods, including ELISA and Flow Cytometry, for the determination and characterization of antibodies
  • Skilled in safely handling various biological samples, including bacterial cultures, blood, serum, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells, including isolation and characterization techniques


Languages

  • Good command of the English language

 

We will value, but not required

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in research and/or development activities within research groups or companies in the fields of immunology and/or microbiology
  • Degree in Microbiology or a related field 
  • Experience in scientific dissemination
  • Experience using MS Excel, GraphPad, and/or Canvas
  • Communication skills
